Dr. Bo Hi Pak Chairman

Korean War 60th Anniversary Memorial Project 25 Nungdong, KwangJin-Gu Seoul, Korea

Dear Dr. Pak,

As the president of the National Black Leadership Roundtable, it gives me great pleasure to commend you on your efforts to launch the Korean War 60th Anniversary Memorial Project. In June 2010, the 16 nations who fought in that war will commemorate what has been called "The Forgotten War." More than fifty-four thousand brave Americans including many African-Americans, and others from the United Nations troops died in that conflict in a valiant effort to bring peace to the world. That war is not over, however, it is only a truce. The work to bring permanent peace to the Korean peninsula continues.

Thanks to the unselfish acts of bravery of so many, today, the Republic of Korea stands strong as a beacon of hope and democracy in that part of the world and as a true and tried ally of America.

We also welcome and support your efforts of appreciation to the heroes of the Korean War to honor those who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan by bringing The Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet of Korea to a 16-nation goodwill tour that will be launched from Washington, DC. This is truly a heartfelt gesture on behalf of the Korean people to express sincere gratitude for the sacrifices of so many young men and women.

Although six decades have passed, the enemies of peace and democracy continue their quest for turmoil. In such uncertain times, it is even more important that we stand united together to respect and esteem the heroes of the past, present and future. The work of the peacemaker is unfinished. How appropriate that the Little Angels — children representing the hope of the future  — are coming to Washington. The coming of these innocent, yet courageous ambassadors for peace urges us to be more diligent and more determined to work for true peace.

I am very honored to accept the position as co-chair together with Dr. Joseph Lowery, who so eloquently delivered the benediction at the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, and other distinguished Americans to host the Little Angels and most especially to secure a performance at the White House. I firmly believe this is a project that enhances the goals of President Barack Obama to bring hope and peace to this troubled world.
