Dear Dr Bo Hi Pak
I am pleased to welcome the Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet of Korea.
New Zealand was one the first countries to respond to the United Nations
Security Council's call to support Korea when the war began in 1950. More
than 6,000 New Zealanders served in Korea as a part of the New Zealand Army
force under UN Command and in the Royal New Zealand Navy. 45
New Zealanders died, including 33 during the war.
Their sacrifice and efforts underpin the strong and friendly relationship our two
countries enjoy today. New Zealand has maintained a presence to support the
people of Korea as a part of the United Nations Command, deployed on Korean
soil.
As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, it is important to
remember and honour the veterans of the Korean War and their families.
I thank the Little Angels for their efforts in this regard.
Yours Sincerely,
The Honourable John Key
Prime Minister
