It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the performance by The Little Angels Children’s Folk Ballet of
Korea, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.
On June 25, 1950, the Land of the Morning Calm became a battleground. The Korean War saw 26,791 Canadians serve and fight in defence of democracy for South Korea. A cease-fire came three years later, and Canadians continued to serve until the end of 1955. The ravages of war claimed thousands of lives, including 516 Canadians.
Tonight’s performance is a wonderful expression of thanks to the veterans of the Korean War. I am certain that this special presentation will be a
moving experience for everyone in attendance. I would like to commend the young performers for their talent, proud ambassadorship, and commitment to sharing the gratitude of their people with the international community.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, please accept my best wishes for a most memorable and inspirational evening.
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
