Warm greetings to everyone gathered in Washington, D.C., to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean War with a performance by the Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet of Korea.
Engraved at the top of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in our nation's capital is the simple phrase, "Freedom is Not
Free." As we join together to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, we pay tribute to the selfless and determined men and women from America and 15 other United Nations countries who paid the price of freedom. Fighting courageously under harsh conditions and on treacherous terrain, these patriots proved to all the enemies of freedom that our countries' commitment to liberty, democracy, and human rights is not only
one of words, but also one of deeds. I am privileged to have this opportunity to salute those Korean War veterans who are
still with us, and to honor the service and memory of those who remain only in spirit.
A performance by The Little Angels is a fitting way to commemorate this anniversary. Transcending barriers of nationality and language, ballet is a dynamic performing art that proves to be a powerful medium through which the beauty and diversity of human experience can be expressed. I am thankful to its members for helping us observe this milestone in such a special way.
Many thanks to the members of the Korean War 60th anniversary Memorial Committee, and best wishes to all of you for a meaningful event and observance .
